Fortunately, two programs provide essential health coverage, including dental care, for eligible groups who may not otherwise have access: the Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) Program and the Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP).
About the NIHB
The NIHB Program, provided by Indigenous Services Canada, is specifically designed to support First Nations and Inuit communities by offering coverage for health services not included in provincial or territorial healthcare plans. The NIHB Program is available to all recognized First Nations individuals and Inuit who are registered with their respective bands or organizations. With this coverage, eligible individuals receive access to preventive, restorative, and emergency dental treatments at no personal cost.

NIHB provides a comprehensive range of dental services, which include:
- Preventive Care: Routine cleanings, fluoride treatments, sealants, and other preventive measures.
